The Pillars Curriculum for Chemical Engineering

Welcome. The department has designed and implemented a radically new chemical engineering curriculum based on a proven pedagogical technique often used in K-12 education, block scheduling. This curriculum, whose design and initial implementation was funded by the National Science Foundation under grant number EEC-0342713, includes six "pillar" courses designed to enhance the "systems" thinking of undergraduate chemical engineers by acting as the first engineering curriculum that is integrated from the sophomore to the senior years. As part of the project, new course notes -- that incorporate complementary material from several traditional chemical engineering courses into the existing pillar courses -- were necessary and are deployed here. Feel free to explore our open courseware and direct any comments or requests for materials to Prof. Joseph McCarthy.
